Colour your Common

Clapham Common Management Advisory Committee (CCMAC) has been awarded a £10,000 grant from the Mayor of London’s Greener City Fund to create a wildflower meadow, boosting biodiversity on the Common.

The money will be used to create a meadow in an area beside Windmill Drive that will bring a floral haven where people can sit in peace and tranquillity or picnic with friends and family.

The project started in March and is set to run through the spring and summer. The first task is to sow and pot wildflower seeds and prepare the ground and shift loads of soil. Local schools are going to get involved and Good Gym Lambeth has jogged over to pitch in and help, but lots more help is needed.

There are three volunteer days scheduled to take place on the following Saturdays – 17 March, 31 March and 14 April. Gardening sessions run from 1pm until 4pm. Tea and cake will be provided for everyone who pitches up to help. Meet at Bandstand Beds on Windmill Drive.
