CCMAC MISSION STATEMENT

Vision

“Working together for a thriving Common, today and for future generations”

Mission

Working in partnership with London Borough of Lambeth (LBL), we promote sustainable and local-led policies and practices on Clapham Common, a valuable asset open to everyone, on behalf of user groups and the local community.

Five strategic objectives and how we will achieve them

1. We will provide a voice for all people who use the Common, working in consultation and partnership with the London Borough of Lambeth (LBL) and other key agencies, through:

  • being the recognised channel of communication and engagement between LBL and the users of the Common and the local community
  • fostering open engagement and communication with a wide range of user groups on the Common
  • maintaining excellent professional relationships with key council officers and elected representatives

2. We will facilitate effective and sustainable management of the Common, through:

  • regularly enhancing the Clapham Common Masterplan, setting out the long-term strategy for the Common
  • maintaining Green Flag status for the Common
  • supporting LBL Parks in securing the maximum possible capital investment in, and day-to-day expenditure on, the Common, including through the most effective use of Parks Investment Levy funding for enhancements to the Common
  • monitoring the concerns and opinions of the local community and users of the Common to resolve issues swiftly with LBL and other key agencies
  • advising LBL and its Enforcement Team on priorities in enforcing bylaws and related legislation

3. We will conserve the heritage and enrich the biodiversity of the Common for the benefit of users and the local community, through:

  • developing, maintaining and improving the ecology of the Common
  • nurturing the biodiversity and heritage assets and prioritise them for investment in line with the Clapham Common Masterplan
  • implementing the Clapham Common Tree Strategy Action Plan and its agreed Addendums
  • raising awareness and encouraging public understanding of the heritage and ecology of the Common

4. We will strive to balance the, potentially conflicting, interests of all those who use the Common in different ways, with each other and with the local community, through:

  • identifying the distinct user groups, and aiming to understand their priorities, concerns and aspirations, alongside those of the local community
  • working with LBL to put in place an Events Strategy steering the approach to possible future events on the Common
  • providing accessible information on the issues, challenges and opportunities facing the Common
  • developing a communication strategy to promote the purpose and function of the Common, including new developments and activities that could be accommodated

5. We will maintain a robust infrastructure and sustainable organisation through:

  • maintaining high standards of governance to ensure the smooth running of the organisation
  • complying with the CCMAC Constitution, and submitting to LBL proposals for updating it where relevant
  • working to achieve the ambitions set out in our published statement on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and adhering to our published policies on Harassment and Bullying, and on Conflicts of Interest
  • ensuring sufficient resources are in place to fund effective administration of the organisation
  • including in our communication strategy the promotion of the objectives and plans of the organisation
