Winterville will return to Clapham Common this month after Councillors approved its application by five votes to two at Lambeth’s Planning Application Committee.
Set up will begin this week and Winterville will open on Thursday 15 November. It will run until Christmas Eve. The footprint is smaller than last year and there are fewer heavy fun fair rides.
At CCMAC’s insistence extensive ground works will be undertaken to prepare, protect and repair the event site. Our aim is to ensure damage is mitigated as much as possible and avoid a repeat of the extensive harm caused by last year’s event, the scars of which can still be seen today. The groundworks will be done by an expect external supplier and paid for by Winterville.
CCMAC has made it clear to Lambeth Council that we are not against events on the Common but we are firmly opposed to the damage they cause.
CCMAC had wanted Winterville moved to the hard-standing fun fair site besides the South Circular. This site is now earmarked for redevelopment and upgrade enabling events to be moved here if appropriate.
