Summer Bandstand Concerts

CCMAC will be presenting a series of concerts at the Bandstand on Clapham Common this summer.

The season kicks off with Common People at 1pm on Saturday 27 May, the Bank Holiday weekend. Now in its third year, Common People celebrates the diversity of south London talent, showcasing bands, choirs, choruses, poets and orchestras.

The concerts will then run fortnightly until Sunday 3 September. All these concerts start at 3pm and are free.

Next up on Sunday 11 June is Here to Havana, an Afro-Cuban big band, who are well known to audiences in Clapham.

This is followed on Sunday 25 June by a local community choir, singing on the bandstand for the first time.  Their conductor Adam Saunders will also conduct the young people’s jazz orchestra which he trains in Merton.

In July we have two contrasting concerts. On Sunday 9 July we feature a small local band, Fuzion, who play a mix of jazz, classical and popular music, featuring cello, piano and saxophone.  Then on Sunday 23 July we welcome back the London Allstars steel band, who gave one of our most popular concerts last year.

On Sunday 6 August, local players Creative Flowe will treat us to an afternoon of contemporary music and dance, showcasing the talents of a number of individual performers.  They will be followed on Sunday 20 August by the Herne Hill-based Lambeth Wind Orchestra.

The season ends on Sunday 3 September with a concert by the Crystal Palace Band, kindly sponsored by the Clapham Society.  The band is one of our oldest traditional brass bands, and may well have played on this bandstand within a few years of it being built.

CCMAC is grateful to the London Borough of Lambeth for their continued funding of the concerts.
