More birds and bats on the Common

Eagle-eyed users of Clapham Common will have noticed the grass in some areas of the Common is not being mowed as it has in previous years. CCMAC (Clapham Common Management Advisory Committee) has agreed with Lambeth Landscapes, the parks and open spaces division of Lambeth Council, to let the grass grow long in some patches of the Common. See map below.

The aim is to improve biodiversity – more grasses and wildflowers attract increasing numbers of insects which in turn tempt more birds, bats and small mammals to make the Common their home.

This is in addition to the planting of the new meadow CCMAC is creating alongside Windmill Drive.

We will review at year end and fine tune the map if necessary.
