Blooming success of wildflower test beds
Wildflower seeds planted in the spring have been a blooming success, improving the biodiversity of the Common by attracting bees, butterflies and other insects to our treasured open green space.
Three areas were seeded. The one pictured is at the traffic island facing Cavendish Road. The others were around the Polygon and behind Holy Trinity Church. These complement the larger wildflower haven created alongside Windmill Drive two years ago.
There are lessons to be learned, not least the watering and lack of rain over the spring, but the test beds are encouraging enough to discuss with Lambeth Council other potential areas to be seeded.
