It’s been a busy summer for Bandstand Beds, Clapham Common’s community food-growing group.
As well as looking after its two established growing spaces on the Common, Bandstand Beds has created a new community garden in the corner of the green-waste depot, next to Windmill Drive. A polytunnel was installed on 27 July and since then the groups’ members have regularly spent their Saturdays assembling, filling and planting raised beds, and building picnic tables.
Now it’s time to sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labours at the Clapham Common Growing Opening Feast on Saturday 24 October 2015, from midday until 4pm.
This community event, which is free to attend and open to everyone, has been set up in partnership with Incredible Edible Lambeth, a borough-wide group dedicated to encouraging local food growing. On the day there will be delicious home-cooked food served from the Brixton People’s Kitchen mobile cooker as well as planting activities, back-and-neck massage, face painting and a raffle!
The fabulous prizes include a Christmas food hamper donated by Sainsbury’s, gift vouchers from Oliver Bonas, Clapham Books and Groundwork, and tickets from Clapham Picturehouse.
This free event will also be a great opportunity to hear about the group’s future plans for the new Clapham Common Growing corner and for you to give your feedback on the new garden — and the Edible Clapham Route.
