After years of campaigning by CCMAC, local Councillors and residents, Windmill Drive – which cuts across Clapham Common – is now closed to through traffic along the length of the Green Waste Site, creating a safer place for pedestrians and cyclists.

CCMAC has long campaigned to close Windmill Drive as we consider it a rat run and there have been numerous accidents. Closure is also a goal included in the Clapham Common Masterplan.

Parking bays along this stretch of Windmill Drive have also been suspended and double yellow lines have already been painted on either side of the road. Access is still open to emergency vehicles.

Closure has been introduced under an experimental traffic order and the scheme will be monitored by Lambeth Council for six months before making it permanent. The emergency services will also need to be consulted.
