Clapham Common Growing

For the past year, Bandstand Beds has been working with Lambeth Council and CCMAC to reclaim part of Clapham Common’s green waste depot and transform it into a new community garden.

With in-kind and financial support from Lambeth Council, and grant funding raised from Awards for All, Capital Clean-up and Love Your Roots, the Bandstand Beds Clapham Common Growing project is now well underway. Lambeth contractors Veolia have levelled the site and Bandstand Beds have organised volunteer litter picking days to help clear some of the rubble and rubbish that had built up over the years.

Finally, on 27 July 2015 the project’s landmark day arrived and the polytunnel was installed – with volunteers working to fill and level the inside on the following Saturday.

Throughout the rest of the summer the group will be installing raised beds and planting up crops, some of which they hope to use their autumn celebration community feast on 24 October 2015. Free and everyone welcome!
