Bandstand renovations under way

Getting ready for the Bandstand’s birthday party

Work begins at the end of August to repaint and refurbish the Clapham Common Bandstand, the largest in London, all in time to celebrate its 130th birthday next year.

This is the first major works to be done since its restoration in 2006. The managing agent for the refurbishment is Dannatt, Johnson Architects (DJA), the same as undertook the original restoration. DJA has all the original plans including the precise colours used to repaint the Bandstand, ensuring compliance with its heritage listing. The restoration contractor is Alfred Bagnalls & Sons.

The work is expected to take six weeks during which time the Bandstand will be covered in scaffolding and securely fenced off. CCMAC is working closely with Lambeth Council to ensure the success of this work to such an important heritage asset on Clapham Common.

The project is fully funded by a levy imposed on all events on Clapham Common.
